MadForTrad are pleased to offer tutorials by some of Irish Music's finest exponents. These instructional CD ROM's, combine Video, Text, Photographs and Music Notation to make the learning experience as easy as possible for you the student.

Video close-ups allow the student to see exactly how the tutors play their instruments while perfect digital audio lets you hear each piece clearly. Individual parts of the tune are shown separately before the full tune is played together. Windows Media Player allows each video to be looped so you can play along with each tune without needing to stop, start, rewind etc. as you must on your VCR, CD or cassette player.

Each Tutorial featues a complete Beginners section as well as a comprehensive Advanced section and is suitable for students of all standards.

System Requirements

The system requirements to run these tutorials are extremely basic and will run perfectly on almost any computer.

P.C.: Windows 95, Pentium 166MHz, 16 MB RAM, CD ROM.

Mac: O.S 8.1, 32 MB RAM, 604 Power PC 180MHz, CD ROM.

We recommend that you download a sample video clip from our Sample Page prior to purchase, in order to confirm that your system can run a CD ROM tutorial. Please allow the video to download fully before attempting to play it.

A media player such as Windows Media Player or Apple Quicktime is needed to run the video clips. These applications should open automatically when you download the sample clips. If you do not have a media player you may download one free from the Microsoft Download Center or from the Apple Website.

Mac Users: The tutorials run best with Netscape Navigator, available for free from the Netscape Download Center. Please contact us if you experience any difficulty with the sample video clips.

She can be regularly found at the Folk Beat Derby Festival and Folkworks Adult Summer School, Durham. Karen is also Core Tutor and Assistant to the Director (Alistair Anderson) on the Degree Course in Folk Music at Durham University.
